Wine Labels
Adelaide Wine Label Design
The short version: Wine label design for South Australian wineries and drinks brands. Single labels, full ranges, and the brand around them if it’s new.
The label sells the first bottle. The wine sells the second.
On a shelf of 40 reds you have about 3 seconds to make someone reach for yours, and design is what wins those seconds. We design wine labels for wineries and drinks brands that want to look as good as what’s in the bottle.
Who this is for
- New wineries and labels launching a first release
- Established producers whose labels look dated next to the neighbours
- Winemakers adding a new range or a premium tier
- Drinks brands beyond wine: spirits, cider, beer and low-and-no
- Anyone heading into bottle shops, export or on-premise who needs the label to carry the brand on its own
Wine is the work we know best
We’re an Adelaide studio in the middle of one of the great wine regions on earth. Food, drink and lifestyle brands are what we do, and wine sits right at the centre of it.
We understand provenance, varietal cues, and the jump from cellar door to bottle shop to export. We also understand print, which matters more than people expect: textured stocks, foils, embossing, and the way a design has to survive a real production run.
We’ve done this for a lot of wineries, including Turon Wines, Warburton Wines, Coulter Wines and Perihelion.
What we design
- The front and back label, built to work across your whole range
- Ranges and tiers, so your entry level and your premium read clearly apart
- Capsules, cartons, 6-packs and case design
- The name, story and tone of voice if the brand is new
- Print-ready artwork, and a working relationship with your label printer
How it works
- Discovery: we get to know the wine, the buyer you’re chasing, your competitors and your ambition
- Strategy: we work out where the label needs to sit and what it has to say
- Design: we design the label and show it to you on a mocked-up bottle before anything is committed
- Delivery: you get press-ready files, checked against your printer’s specs
What a label is doing on the shelf
Most people scanning a shelf aren’t reading tasting notes. They’re reacting to a feeling: does this look like a wine worth trying, and does it look worth the price.
A good label answers both before anyone picks it up.
Small runs and growing ranges
You don’t need a big range for good design to pay off. A single well-designed label lifts a small-batch release, and a consistent system makes it easy to add the next wine without starting from scratch.
We design with growth in mind, so your cellar-door-only drop and your export range still look like they came from the same winery. If you’re bottling a one-off or a limited release, we can keep it simple and cost-effective without letting it look cheap.
Proofs and press checks
Colour on a screen and colour on a textured stock are different things, so we build in a proofing step before a full run. Foils and embossing behave differently depending on the stock you land on, and we’ll tell you where a design is likely to shift on press before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a wine label cost to design? A single label starts between $2,000–$5,000. A full range, or a new drinks brand with naming and story, costs more. We quote per project once we know the scope.
Can you design a whole range? Yes, and it’s usually smarter to. Designing the range together keeps your tiers consistent and makes each new release faster and cheaper to add.
Do you supply print-ready files and work with printers? Yes. We supply press-ready artwork and we’re happy to talk to your label printer about stocks, foils and dielines so the finish matches the design.
Do you handle Australian wine labelling requirements? We design to the mandatory information rules, things like standard drinks, allergens and volume, and we’ll flag anything your bottler needs. Final compliance sign-off sits with you and your bottler.
Can you refresh an existing label without losing our regulars? Yes. When a label has real recognition, we update it carefully, keeping the cues your buyers know while lifting the quality.
Do you do drink branding beyond wine? Yes. Drink branding for spirits, beer, cider and low-and-no, plus food and beverage branding more broadly. The shelf works the same way, whatever’s in the bottle.
Can you help name the wine or the brand? Yes. Naming, story and tone of voice can run alongside the design.
Do you work with wineries outside Adelaide? Yes. We work with wineries and drinks brands across Australia. Most of it happens remotely, with a bottle or two in the post.
